FAQ – What is Hypnosis?
What is hypnosis?
It’s a state of mind that allows the unconscious mind to access tools to resolve issues that you maybe didn’t even know you had.
Will I be aware of what I’m doing?
Many people believe that “in trance” you will be susceptible to being manipulated and taken advantage of. This is not the case at all. You are always “there” and you cannot be made to do something you don’t want to do.
Is it scary?
Hypnosis has the potential to bring up things that you have locked up mentally for a long time. However your unconscious mind has looked after you up until now and will continue to do so while in trance. In fact it will be even more protective now that you are allowing your unconscious mind to be in control.
Can everyone be hypnotised?
Yes and no LOL. If you are open to hypnosis and are compliant in the process it will work. However if you are non-compliant, meaning if you say “I don’t want you to do anything” and do not agree to hypnosis, it is also unethical to proceed.
Does it always work?
Great question I get every day. It has a very varied response depending on the individual. Sometimes the most skeptical are the easiest to hypnotise. I have found that with most people that their subconscious is a lot faster than their conscious mind, so the changes the need have already happened, but over the next few days and weeks the changes will be more profound. It is a slow process, but the mind will work in the time that you are ready. So don’t give up.
Do hypnotherapists “test”?
Generally hypnotherapists don’t “test” as they are not confident in their own abilities. With conversational hypnotherapy as taught by my mentor and friend Scott Jansen, we test during and also at the end of sessions to make sure that the issue has been resolved. If it still seems a problem, we will just do more therapy and allow the unconscious mind to really resolve the issues.
Is Hypnosis for real?
It is very real, and very effective. The problem with trying to resolve problems in a conscious state, we are only dealing with the conscious perception of the problem. Ask yourself: is a problem in the conscious or in your unconscious mind? We believe the problem is a certain way, but that is our conscious conclusion. And that is what we assume is the problem. Take for example you think you have to have more confidence. That is a conscious conclusion to the problem. Where did it come from? How does it affect us? Maybe as a child you were told you can’t do something, and that affected you to the point that you feel trapped. Trapped is not the same as lack of confidence. So during hypnosis you realise that you need freedom from something, which in turn makes you more confident. Trust me. What you think it is, is anything but that. The problem is it’s what “you THINK it is.”
I’ve tried hypnosis in the past and it didn’t twork, how is this different?
Did you have someone read you a script? Was the hypnotist reading from something? Did they claim you would require multiple sessions. All signs of a BAD hypnotist. They are professional actors or script readers.
Ask yourself this question: have you ever had a conversation? If you answered yes, then answer this: did you know what you and the other person were going to say? You may have planned the first line, maybe the second, but who knows after that. So how could a pre-planned script work?
How can you do in one session what others do in 3?
If I told you something would take 3 hours, it most likely will. If I tell you it will take 3 sessions, it most likely will. In fact you have pre-framed the mind to believe it will only work after 3 sessions. So you may ask why can I do in 1 session, what others do in 3? Instead of asking that, ask what are the others doing in 3 that I only need 1 session.
Can we resolve multiple issues?
Yes and no LOL. If you have multiple issues, chose the one that is the biggest issue and you may find that others crumble as a result of destroying the big one. So we will work through one session, but you may find that more than just that issue has been resolved.
What can hypnosis resolve?
It can resolve many things. Smoking, cravings, confidence and motivation are most common. I am always asked how can I fix smoking as it’s a chemical addiction isn’t it. It is and it isn’t. Cigarettes contain chemicals and your conscious conclusion is that is impossible to break that addiction. And that is a conscious point of view. It is not accurate. People who say they are hooked and can’t give up have never been asked the ‘right” question.
With conversational hypnosis, you will find that you are resolving your own problems using your own mental tools.
Are you a registered hypnotherapist?
I am both professional hypnotherapist and master hypnotist from the Conversational Hypnosis Academy. I’m registered with the International Institute of Complementary Therapies. I’m also insured to provide hypnotherapy. But all the certificates don’t mean a thing if we can’t help you resolve your issues. Together we can resolve a problem you really truly want to resolve, and I won’t blame you for not being a willing participant. For as long as you truly want this and accept my help we will do our best. As I don’t use scripts, and don’t try to make you do something you don’t want to, there will be no need to use the excuse that “it was the clients fault.” Let’s leave that excuse for the script reading “actor” hypnotists, as that’s what they say to get them out of trouble.
